This makes sense for a lot of reasons; It has one of the fastest attack speeds in the game. Its damage per stamina consumption is amazing. 2h r1 spam does an incredible amount of poise damage, enough to stagger nearly any non boss in the game. Katanas aren't super great for PvE, but the best ones are probably Uchigatana, and the Blacksteel Katana. All the others either come with low durability & will frequently break, come too late in the game, or have a big downside for PvE specifically (Chaos blade HP drain).
